How does the free video background remover work?

bgmatte runs a Robust Video Matting (RVM) neural network directly in your browser using WebGPU. Every frame is processed on your own device — no upload, no server, no signup.

Is my video uploaded to your servers?

No. The free tier processes video 100% locally in your browser — your footage never leaves your device. Only the optional HD cloud tier uploads video, and files are auto-deleted after processing.

What format can I export?

The free tier exports WebM (VP9) with a real alpha channel — true transparency that works in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and OBS. The HD cloud tier adds MP4 and ProRes 4444.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome and Edge 113+ with WebGPU give the fastest real-time preview. Safari and Firefox fall back to CPU processing, which works but is slower.

Is there a length limit?

The free in-browser tier handles videos up to 60 seconds each, with no limit on the number of videos. The HD cloud tier supports up to 10 minutes per video.

What is the difference between Free and HD?

Free runs AI matting in your browser: private, instant and unlimited at preview resolution. HD Cloud uses server GPUs for 4K output, longer videos and studio formats — pay per minute, coming soon.
